  • Take special care to choose lean meat and extra lean meat when possible. Also opt for skinless chicken breasts.
  • Once you have your meat home make sure to trim all visible and remaining fat from the meat.
  • Never fry your foods. Instead of frying you have so many other options such as grilling, baking, broiling, steaming and poaching.
  • Always drain the fat from any meats you cook. Also make sure to blot the meats dry with a paper towel to ensure you get any and all grease off the meat.
  • When making hamburgers and chili instead of using all beef why not incorporate some black beans or whole grains into the mix. This is a healthier option and is extremely tasty as well.
  • Instead o f using butter and frying chicken or fish use breadcrumbs and bake them instead.
  • Try to always substitute turkey. For example substitute turkey sausage for pork sausage and substitute ground turkey for ground beef.  Also substitute turkey bacon for pork bacon.
  • Twice a week substitute two meat dishes for vegetarian dishes.
  • Instead of harmful spices and salt and pepper use spices, fruits and salsa to flavor your food.
