One of the best traditional American desserts is the apple pie. In case you are a fan of the traditional recipes, here is one that will surely be a pleasant surprise for your guests.
The ingredients you need are: 6 small apples, 3/4 cups all purpose flour, a pinch of salt, 1/2 cup cold margarine, cold water, ¾ tsp ground cinnamon and one egg. The preparation is easy. First you need to prepare the apple filling.
Wash and peel the apples as you chop them into little pieces. Combine the apple pieces with 50 g of sugar, two tablespoons of water and the cinnamon. Place the mixture into a frying pan and cook slowly, until the apples are soft. Remove the pan from the fire and set aside.
The next step is preparing the pie dough. Combine the flour, the margarine and 30 ml of water. Take the mixture into a food processor and mix it up, until it smooth. Roll the dough as you form a sheet.
Make sure you cut it in two sheets of equal sizes. Place the first one on the bottom of the tray and add the apple mixture over it. Cover with the second sheet and bake for 30 minutes. Cool it and serve it with apple slices and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
