Let’s admit it: the Chinese cuisine and the Cantonese cuisine are quite similar, but naturally both of them have their specific elements.
Spicy beef with shrimp and bok choy
This is one of the easy to prepare Chinese recipes that you could also try at home. To achieve the perfect taste you will need ¼ cup of Shao Hsing rice wine, two tablespoons of cornstarch, 1 ½ tablespoons of oyster-flavored sauce, four tablespoons of Canola oil, ¾ pound of sirloin steak, crushed red pepper, ten raw shrimps, and one pound of bok choy.
Mix the rice wine, cornstarch and the oyster sauce with two tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Then add to the mixture the beef and the crushed red pepper. You should stir for about 1-2 minutes. Then add the shrimp and stir until it becomes opaque. Place everything on a plate.
Heat the remaining oil and add to it the bok choy. Stir until it starts to wilt. Add it to the cornstarch mixture. Then put the beef mixture back to the pan until the sauce thickens.
This recipe is considered to be a Cantonese one. To prepare it you need a pound of beef steak, for the marinade 1 ½ tablespoons of dark soy sauce, a tablespoon of rice wine, two teaspoons of cornstarch, 1 ½ tablespoons of water, and a table spoon of vegetable oil. The other ingredients include chopped ginger, ¾ cup of sliced mushrooms, a small carrot, 2 ½ tablespoons of oyster sauce, ½ teaspoon of granulated sugar, ¼ cup of water, four tablespoons of oil and also salt and pepper.
Cut the beef into thin slices and add the ingredients of the marinade in the order that they have been presented in. The beef needs to be marinated for 15 minutes. In another bowl mix the sugar, water, and oyster sauce and put it aside.
Heat two tablespoons of oil and add the ginger. Then add the beef to it and fry until it gets almost ready. Once it is done remove the beef and drain it.
Heat the other two tablespoons of oil, slice the carrot and add to it. Fry a bit and then also add the mushrooms. Add the sauce to the middle of the wok. Once it starts to boil add the beef as well. Mix it all and add seasoning as required. Serve the dish with rice.
